What is a Glycemic Load? |
The glycemic load is comprised of foods that raise the blood sugar or blood glucose level in the body and there is a standard index of these foods known as the glycemic load index. There are many benefits when watching the glycemic index, which includes the fact that when eating slow burning carbs they will slowly turn to glucose in the blood stream. This means having more energy for a longer amount of time and for dieting it also means feeling fuller after meals for a longer amount of time. Low glycemic index diets can assist in weight loss, and to manage weight from being gained back, it can improve diabetic management and help improve blood glucose levels. Low glycemic type of diets exchanges high carbohydrate foods for lower gycemic index foods, such as oat cereals, whole grain breads, fruits and vegetables, which all turn to glucose slowly. |
