Does Green tea accelerate Weight Loss?

Weight loss occurs if the energy taken out is greater than the energy given in. Thus anyone can lose a few pounds by increasing the amount of calories they expend every day. That’s exactly how green tea accelerates weight loss – by increasing energy expenditure.

According to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, green tea extracts can cause up to 4 per cent increase in daily energy expenditure. In addition, they can increase the rate of fat oxidation. Both these effects contribute to weight loss. Researchers have attributed the effects to the interaction between the caffeine and the active ingredients found in the green tea.

The study also shows that green tea does not cause adverse health effects, like increased heart rates and high blood pressure, making it a safer option than some prescription weight loss drugs and herbal products like ephedra. However, the fluoride found in green tea may have some side effects in the long run.

Green tea can be taken in two ways – either by drinking a cup of tea from a trustworthy organic green tea brand or by taking green tea supplements. In both cases, according to Lynn Ross, a Pharmavite education specialist, the green tea must be accompanied by meals for getting maximum benefits.
