Who Should Not Take Weight Loss Pills?

Have you ever considered using weight loss pills to shed pounds from your body? If yes, then you must consult your physician before you start using them. Diet pills, which act as appetite suppressants and metabolism booster, do not work for everyone. For instance, one person may lose up to 5 pounds from using a weight loss pill while the same pill may not cause any weight loss in another person. In most cases, diet pills cause adverse side-effects; however, these pills post extra danger for certain groups of people.

First of all, dieticians do not recommend the use of diet pills for losing one or two pounds since the risks associated are generally much higher than the benefits. Only obese people – that is, those with a body mass index greater than 30 – should use them. Those with a BMI index less than 30 should go for regular diet and exercise programs instead.

Second, weight loss pills are not appropriate for everyone. They are not recommended for children aged below 18. They are also unsuitable for pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding. Also, people with high blood pressure, heart diseases, stroke risk and other severe health conditions must never use weight loss pills.
