Seaweed and Kelp Used for Weight Loss |
Seaweed and Kelp used for weight loss is something that while it may sound like a something for the health nut, it actually has been proven to assist the body in losing weight in some cases. This is because some people that are unable to lose weight are also people that have hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid gland. Brown seaweed and kelp have been found to have a property known as fucoxanthin, which is believed to promote weight loss. These plants also contain iodine which is necessary in the body for the thyroid to function properly. However, taking iodine supplements can be a problem as too much iodine can have a bad effect on the body. Fucoxanthin has been found in some research to stimulate the production of UCP1, which is a protein that increases the burning of fat in the body. This protein is found in the visceral fat, which is found surrounding the organs in the abdomen, which have been linked with heart disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. |
